Consider the Lilys

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
If God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, oh ye of little faith? Luke 12:27,28

Starch Experiment part 1

Can you store and reuse a corn starch and water mix for stiffening crochet?

That is the million dollar question that google failed to answer.

I love all things tiny. I've experimented with crocheting single strands of embroidery floss and was quite pleased with the results. I have made a few tiny animals and such, but this time I decided to make tiny snowflakes for earrings.

I always thought the crocheted and starched stiff snowflake ornaments were so pretty, so I made two different pair  of tiny flakes to start with. They aren't exactly like the ornaments. I made them similar in looks, but they are only 2 rounds, to keep them petite and also because the tiny thread is tedious to work with.

This brings us to the experiment. Since they must be starched, and I am broke, I found a recipe for using corn starch. (Because I somehow do not have plain craft glue in my collection of glue) The thing is, these are very tiny and the recipe makes a lot of starch. So, I want to find out if I can store and reuse my starch mix.

I starched and pinned my snowflakes, then put the remaining mix in a sealed container in the refrigerator. In a few days, when I have more items to starch, I will pull it out and see how it works again.

I put the snowflakes in a small bowl and put a few tablespoons of the starch over them. They had to soak for 3-5 min.

We shall see how this turns out.
